Sean Clare has praised his defensive teammates after a rock solid derby display.
The Jambos backline was in outstanding form last night at Easter Road, nullifying any threat from Hibs’ 21-goal strikeforce, and were cruelly denied a cleansheet when the hosts notched a close-range consolation at the death to make the score 3-1 in Hearts’ favour.
A derby hero in his own right after slotting the crucial opening goal from the penalty spot, Sean believes solidity at the back is the perfect platform for the men in maroon to build upon because he knows they are more than capable of scoring at the other end.
"That’s two very good performances back to back and that’s what we need to do,” he said. “We were outstanding defensively and that’s the platform for us to move forward.
“With the quality of players we have we will always score, so we have to be like that defensively and we’ll win games.
“The first goal for us is definitely so vital. As I say, we’re getting better defensively and now I know we’ll create and score.
“If we can go and win games 1-0, then we’re more than happy with that.
“We have hopefully taken a lot of confidence from the last two, Rangers are a good team and Hibs have turned their season around.
“We have shown we can do it as well, we have to keep it up and we will be alright.
“It’s too early to say we have turned the corner because it’s only two games and one in the league.
“Let’s hope it’s a turning point but we have to make it one.”
