

Education in Gorgie and Dalry
Stop three of the Maroon Mile
There are several educational establishments in Gorgie and Dalry. Dalry Primary School is directly situated on the Maroon Mile. In its current location, the building was opened in 1878 as a successor to an earlier school dating from 1875.
The earliest school in the area appears to be Gorgie School, which opened in 1871 and closed in 1939. St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic School was established in 1876 and since 1896 has been at Hutchison Crossway, while Orwell Primary School is now the home of Garvald Workshops. Balgreen Primary School, on Balgreen Road, dates from 1934. The area also boasts several nurseries for pre-school children.

ST MARTIN'S OF TOURS
The fourth stop on the Heritage Trail is St Martin’s Church, a gothic building
which includes a gabled porch and a three-stage tower with a spire.
The building was originally built for the Baptist Church in 1883-84 and is now a
Scottish Episcopal Church, serving the community of Gorgie-Dalry.
