The Maroon Mile

Welcome to the Maroon Mile Project! The project started in March 2024 and will be completed in October 2025. Thanks to generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Heart of Midlothian Football Club and the Foundation of Hearts have been working on an exciting, 18-month community focused project, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the club.

The ‘Maroon Mile’ project has involved several community focused events, workshops and heritage developments, including the creation of a mile long interactive heritage trail which highlights the social, economic and sporting history of Gorgie and Dalry, home to Heart of Midlothian Football Club.

The project included:

• Oral History project with creation of a publicly accessible archive

• Community clean ups in and around Gorgie and Dalry

• Digital and practical workshops

• Two museum handling kits for community groups and schools to use

• Traditional Skills Festival for S1 & S2 school pupils

• Three new touchscreens in the HMFC museum

• The installation of Tynecastle Terrace sign using traditional signwriting skills

• A heritage trail starting at Haymarket and finishing at Tynecastle Park with an audio trail
