St Martin's of Tours
Stop four of the Maroon MileThe fourth stop on the Heritage Trail is St Martin’s Church, a gothic building which includes a gabled porch and a three-stage tower with a spire. The building was originally built for the Baptist Church in 1883-84 and is now a Scottish Episcopal Church, serving the community of Gorgie-Dalry. The original St Martin’s Church was located further along the Maroon Mile, on the junction of Murieston Cresent and Gorgie Road and the congregation moved into this building in 1982. The interior was completely redesigned in 2014 to create an accessible and eco-friendly space, and the building is managed by volunteers who work together to support the many social, cultural, and recreational groups who meet here.

THE NORTH MERCHISON CEMETERY
THE NORTH MERCHISON CEMETERY
Built in 1874, North Merchiston Cemetery is the final resting place for generations of Gorgie and Dalry residents, including Heart of Midlothian Football Club players, supporters, and officials.
This Gothic building was completed in 1894 for the Dalry Evangelical Union at a cost of just less than £6,000. In 1915, the Gorgie Baptist Church bought the building and remained there until 1982, when it was sold to St Martin of Tours Episcopal Church, the current custodians.
