Lee Wallace promoted to first team coach

12 October 2026

Heart of Midlothian is pleased to confirm that Lee Wallace has joined the first-team coaching set up.

The former Hearts and Scotland player has been promoted from his position as the club’s Transition Phase Coach and becomes part of Head Coach Wouter Vrancken’s backroom team.

Lee will play a key role in supporting the first-team squad during the upcoming busy schedule of domestic and European football, with Wouter keen for him to be involved with the group on a permanent basis.

The 39-year-old will bring his knowledge and experience of working with the club’s younger players to the first team environment, strengthening the alignment to the club’s footballing strategy – The Hearts Way – and ensuring a consistent pathway exists for our players at all levels.

A Hearts Academy graduate in the early 00’s, Lee knows exactly what it takes, and how young players can be supported, to reach full potential, having gone on to make 160 top team appearances in maroon and win 10 Scotland caps.

He returned to the club in 2024 as an assistant coach of the boys’ U18s. Gaining top team coaching experience that same year during first-team managerial transitions, Lee further developed his coaching knowledge with the B Team as the club’s younger players came together under one umbrella with the creation of the PDP (Professional Development Phase) group. It was with this group that Lee helped create history by being part of the historic Scottish Youth Cup winning side last season.

Recently appointed Scotland U19s assistant coach, Lee’s vast experience in more than 20-years of elite level football will see him become a valuable addition to Hearts’ first-team coaching set up.
