Hearts were defeated by Kilmarnock today, despite a superb strike from Isma Goncalves, as goals from Kris Boyd and Adam Frizzell earned the visitors all three points.
The Jambos took to the home of Scottish Rugby for the final time this season, as a long-awaited return to Tynecastle is just fourteen days away. Kilmarnock were the visitors to BT Murrayfield looking to build on two away draws at either half of the Old Firm, although they were defeated by Hibs in their last match.
Craig Levein made three changes to the Jambos side that faced Rangers last week, with Don Cowie and Connor Randall returning to the side, along with Daniel Baur who was making his first team debut, slotting in at left back. Out went Harry Cochrane, Jamie Walker and Rafal Grzelak.
In the week that Hearts lost Scottish Cup winning legend Stefano Salvatori, a minute’s applause marked the fifth minute of the match, and Isma almost capped it off perfectly when he beat the offside trap and hammered a shot that former Jambo Jamie MacDonald tipped onto the post.
Jordan Jones of the visitors then hit the byline, but his low cross evaded everyone and was cleared. A minute later, Kyle Lafferty was played in on goal, but his left footed effort was deflected wide for a corner. Rory McKenzie then tested Jon McLaughlin with a deflected shot that was tipped over.
On the half hour mark, Killie took the lead. Kris Boyd beat the offside trap and, despite Michael Smith helping narrow the angle, buried the ball beyond McLaughlin to give the visitors a lead their play probably merited.
Into the second half, and Isma came close again. John Souttar played a low corner out to the striker but MacDonald gathered his effort. Five minutes later, he came even closer when he cut inside the penalty area from the left and bent a low shot that rebounded back off the post and out.
Isma finally got his reward when, after a ball into the area was cleared, he curled a gorgeous shot into the top corner from 20 yards out leaving McDonald absolutely helpless. The manager then immediately withdrew Lafferty and Randall in place of Euan Henderson and Cole Stockton.
A crazy sixty seconds then occurred, a long ball down the field found Stockton and Isma two on one. Stockton played in Isma, but MacDonald was out fast to make a terrific save. Killie flew up the park, and O’Donnell’s cut back found Adam Frizzell who fired into the roof of the net to give Killie the lead again, and this time they were able to see out their lead to claim the win.
