Donis Avdijaj believes he’s already part of the Hearts family and wants to pay Daniel Stendel back after revealing the part the manager played in bringing him to Tynecastle.
The 23-year-old Kosovan international today penned an initial six-month deal with the Jambos, subject to international clearance, after leaving Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor.
The left-winger arrives in Gorgie with an impressive pedigree, having turned out for Schalke, Sturm Graz and Willem II as well as winning international caps with Kosovo’s national team.
Keen to get started, Donis revealed his relationship with Daniel was key to him coming to Hearts and having watched some first team games, he’s already impressed with the backing from the stands.
Speaking to Hearts TV, he said: “The coach knows me from before and I know the coach from before. We had a talk and it was directly that I want to work with him. He was the main guy why I (decided) to come.
“I’m really happy that I can work with him from now. It’s from both sides, the club and me. The club gives me heart and I want to pay them back, especially the coach. I can’t wait to show the people here who I am.
“I also think the team has quality. They’re are not in a place where they normally are. I think we have one way to go and everyone together
“I read a little bit like everyone does and my wish is to go somewhere the fans want me, where the fans are happy that I am here. I had the feeling that not only about the club but also about the people who live in this city. I was here for two days and it feels like all of the city knows me even though I hadn’t signed.
“It feels great for myself and that is why I also choose to come here, to show myself and to take a lot of wins, to work with heart and celebrate with the people here who are so helpful and so nice.
“I am a guy in all of my clubs before who had a really good relationship with the fans. In my clubs in Holland, Austria and Germany I had my own songs. I love the fans and I like emotions in the game.
“The fans, especially at Hearts as I have seen in the last games, are very nice and every time are behind the team, it doesn’t matter which position (they’re in). I can say this is a family and I want to be part of this family.
