Don's a Jambo

Midfielder Don Cowie becomes Hearts' first signing of the transfer window.

Don Cowie has become Hearts’ first signing of the January transfer window.

The experienced midfielder has penned a deal at Tynecastle until May 2018 - subject to international clearance - following his departure from English outfit Wigan Atheltic.

32-year-old Don joins the Jambos after spending six and a half years down south, which included a Championship win with Cardiff City in 2012/13 and a season in the Premier League.

No stranger to the Scottish game, Don spent part of his career in the SPL with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and has 10 Scotland caps to his name.

Speaking to Hearts News, head coach Robbie Neilson said: “I’m delighted to get Don signed up. He’ll bring experience to the table, which is invaluable when you’re trying to blood younger players into the first team.

“He’s played in the Scottish top flight before so knows our game, and he’s played at the highest level down south and won a Championship, so I know he’s a winner.

“Having played in England, he’ll show the players here the level they’ll have to get to if they have aspirations to play there themselves.

“He’s a great capture and I’m certain he’ll prove to be great value for this club.”
