Craig Gordon has handed Robbie Neilson the perfect first-foot gift by signing a new contract.
The skipper has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him at Tynecastle until the summer of 2024.
Craig has been in sensational form ever since he returned to Gorgie in 2020. He helped the Jambos to secure an immediate return to the top flight with 15 clean sheets in all competitions and was named in the Championship Team of the Year.
Earning regular man of the match accolades this season, he’s registered 11 shutouts so far and was deservedly handed the No.1 jersey by Scotland manager Steve Clarke.
Craig’s 64th cap in the 2-0 win over Denmark last month saw him set a new record as Hearts’ most capped player.
Influential on and off the pitch, the club captain will continue to lead out his boyhood team for the next two-and-a-half seasons, much to the delight of everyone at Hearts.
Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, the manager said: “I’m really happy that Craig has committed his future to the club.
“He’s been such an important part of the journey we started last season and the exciting thing is that we’ve only just started so to have Craig with us on it is great news.
“I’ve said it many times but he makes the sublime look easy and I now just expect him to make saves, no matter how ridiculous they are. He is a world class goalkeeper and we’re lucky to have him.”
Sporting Director Joe Savage said: “It’s fantastic to have Craig commit his future to us.
“We speak a lot about bringing the right players to this club and in Craig we have, not only a world class player, but a leader. He’s respected by everyone inside and outside the dressing room and he is a fantastic role model for our younger players.
“He is the backbone of Hearts and I know the fans will be delighted he’s going to continue pulling on that famous jersey for years to come.”
