Craig Levein is continuing to shape Hearts’ first team squad for next season and beyond with the addition of Aidy White.
The former Leeds United and Barnsley left-back has been on the manager’s radar for over a year and today signed on at Tynecastle until 2021.
The manager has been busy of late, securing key players’ long-term futures with the club while looking to add talented individuals to the squad.
Signing Aidy represents the latter, with Craig preparing to work closely with the fitness team to ensure the 27-year-old builds up his fitness in a supportive environment in order to make a long-awaited return to first team football.
Aidy came through the youth system at Leeds and featured over 100 times before a move to Barnsley saw him win the Football League Trophy and the League One Play-Off Final, both in 2016.
He captained the Republic of Ireland U21s before a troublesome groin injury in 2017 forced him onto the sidelines.
Speaking to the Official Hearts website, Craig said: “We’ve been in dialogue with Aidy for a year and feel that now is the right time to bring him in.
“He’s got a lot of work to do in order to reach the level we think he’s capable of but I’m confident he can fulfill his potential and prove to be a vital cog in the wheel as we look towards the future.”
