Shankland on Scotland and Pittodrie trip

21 November 2025

Fresh off the back of netting an important goal on international duty, Lawrence Shankland is high on confidence and is looking to keep both his and Hearts’ form going at Pittodrie this Sunday.

It’s a quick turnaround for the striker, who along with Craig Gordon, played key roles in helping the national team qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Returning to the group today, Shankland acknowledged an enjoyable few days, but admitted his focus is straight back to delivering for the men in maroon.

“It's been brilliant,” he told the media at the pre-match press conference.

“Really enjoyable. A lot of good memories being made and it's just been letting it all sink in and enjoying the moment.

“I knew going into the other night that if I could get a goal in such a big game, on such a big occasion, then it would be good for me. It's never a bad idea to score a goal for your country, so I was just delighted to get on the scoresheet, but more importantly, for the boys to get the win and to all have that moment together.”

“You know your job, you know you're coming back, you've obviously enjoyed the last couple of days, but you know you're coming back to your graft and it's about getting ready for the next game.

“Football's always like that, it moves quite quickly and I quite like it that way. I'm coming back into a place full of positivity, people in good places and I'm looking to win football matches so it's a good place to come up.

“It holds your confidence and you can take that feeling and all the good feelings here, you'd be daft not to carry them forward. I will carry that with me, but the job remains the same, we've been in a good place at the club. We've been winning a lot of games and the ones we've not been winning we've still been picking up points so that's what we need to keep doing going forward.

“When you get that feeling that's why you need to enjoy it when it does come. I'm in a good place, feeling really positive, the club's feeling positive and my games in a good place as well so looking forward to every game.”
