Malachi makes Gorgie move

18 June 2026

Heart of Midlothian is delighted to present our fifth summer signing; Malachi Fagan-Walcott.

The highly-rated versatile defender joins the Jambos from York City for an undisclosed fee, agreeing a four-year contract at Tynecastle Park.

24-year-old Malachi arrives in Gorgie with a wealth of experience, including in Scotland, despite his young years.

A product of Tottenham Hotspur’s youth system, he made his Spurs debut in a 2020 Champions League Round of 16 loss to RB Leipzig, at the time becoming Tottenham’s youngest ever Champions League player.

January 2021 saw Malachi experience Scottish football for the first time with a loan move to Dundee. Despite being cut short by injury, he did get to sit on the bench at Tynecastle in a 2-1 win for the Dee.

A permanent move to Cardiff City followed, with Malachi moving to Wales in 2023. Another loan spell in Scotland followed, this time at Dunfermline Athletic. He made 15 appearances at East End Park during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign, and scored three goals.

Season 2024/25 saw Malachi gain first team experience with Cardiff City in the Championship and EFL Cup, before going out on loan to York City.

He made such an impression that a season-long loan became a permanent deal only six months in, and last season Malachi earned rave reviews for his performances with the Minstermen. His eight goals and four assists in 36 appearances helped them to lift the National League title, while he was included in the league’s team of the season and nominated for the league’s young player of the year award.

With 14 goals in 79 appearances under his belt at York City, Malachi will now continue his ascent in the maroon of Hearts, joining his new teammates for pre-season ahead of a highly anticipated domestic and European campaign.
