Macaulay signs on

27 April 2023

Hot on the heels of teammate Bobby McLuckie's new deal, the B-Team skipper is next to extend his stay in Gorgie following an impressive season in the Lowland League.

Blessed with a crisp range of passing, Macaulay became a mainstay in the Wee Jambos’ midfield before assuming the captain’s armband towards the end of the campaign.

The 17-year-old signed off a successful season by scooping the B-Team Player of the Year prize at the club’s Player of the Year ceremony on Sunday night.

With a new contract signed and sealed, Macaulay has high hopes for the future at Hearts.

Macaulay said; “This new contract is something I’ve been looking to try and earn all season. I’m delighted it’s all sorted now. I’ve loved every minute of it and this year, playing against men every week in the Lowland League, was exactly what I needed and really helped push my game onto the next level.

"It's nice to sign this alongside Bobby, and hopefully we can be about the squad in the years to come."

Sporting Director Joe Savage said; “Getting Macaulay signed up is another great bit of news for the club.

“He is a talented young player who has reaped the benefits of a season in senior football, as evidenced with his B Team Player of the Year Award win.

“Like Bobby McLuckie, Macaulay has been in and around first team training and matchday squads throughout the season, so this new contract is both a reward and a motivator for him.

“It can be challenging to keep the best young talent when bigger clubs, particularly down south, come sniffing so to get two highly-rated players committing their futures to Hearts in two days is fantastic, and we’re not stopping there.”
