Robbie Neilson hailed the Heart of Midlothian support as one of the world’s best as the Jambos kicked off their title coronation proceedings.
The Scottish Championship winners were victorious in their first match since sealing the league title last weekend, running out 2-0 winners over a spirited Queen of the South side to go 26 points clear.
“I was delighted with another win,” said Robbie. “We had a really good start but then it went a bit flat. At half time we told them to get their energy back.
“It can be hard to handle a day like this with all the emotions involved, but I thought they dealt with the occasion brilliantly.”
“We just wanted to try and enjoy the day. The result was the most important thing, first and foremost. The players have their friends and family here, so I hope they have a good time, because they deserve it.”
The head coach finally paid his own personal tribute to the club's supporters, as the team were given the welcome of champions onto the park today.
“The fans have been absolutely fantastic,” enthused Robbie. “To be honest, you’d be hard pressed to find better fans anywhere else. Everywhere we’ve gone, they’ve been there.
“We’ve sold our allocations at Alloa, at Queens, at Ibrox, everywhere. They’ve been with us every step of the way. They’ve given us so much energy.
“I hope they enjoy the next few weeks, we’ve got some more fun games to look forward to, and we’ll try and win those, but I hope they enjoy the success. This is for all of them.”
