Morgaro Gomis has admitted that he knew as far back as the opening day of the season that this Hearts team was special and would go on to do great things.
The midfield maestro, celebrating his first-ever title win, thinks that getting through the start of the season unscathed was crucial to the Jambos bagging the SPFL Championship in record-breaking fashion.
Speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow’s match against Queen of the South, Morgaro said: “From the first game of the season, when we won at Ibrox and Osman scored the winner, I just knew that we had something special in that team.
“There’s that belief that we can go to Ibrox and win that game and then the week after that against Hibs. Those two weeks were kind of crucial for us.
“We’ve got a winning team and we knew that if we’re calm and working hard then we would probably do well this season.
“It’s the best feeling ever, winning the league. Knowing that we’ve still got seven games left to play is kind of crazy. We didn’t think that was going to happen at the beginning of the season but we’ve done really well.”
Morgaro is no stranger to silverware having lifted the Scottish Cup with previous club Dundee United, but he insists there is no better feeling than winning a league title over the course of a grueling season.
“I’ve never won a title before,” he said. “This is the first time. I won the Scottish Cup with Dundee United in 2010 but winning the league is something different.
“It’s the whole season and week in, week out you have to go out and just play. In the cup you just play no more than eight games so I think it’s harder in the league than in the cup.
“For me, this is the best.”
