Three goals, three points for Hearts Women

28 August 2022

Hearts manager, Eva Olid, made three changes to the side that lost 2-0 to Rangers during the week. Addison Handley and Aimee Anderson were brought in to replace Rebecca McAlister and Emma Brownlie. Meanwhile, Lisa Rodgers replaced Charlotte Parker-Smith in goal.

The girls took the lead after just two minutes when a corner from the right caused the visitors problems and after a mini scramble the last touch came off the skipper, Georgia Hunter.

It was a very dominant start from Hearts, and they almost doubled their lead after twelve minutes. Georgia Timms raced in behind the Glasgow backline but was denied by a fantastic save from Shannon Burgon.

The second Hearts goal seemed an inevitability at this stage and Katie Rood almost provided it midway through the first half. After a low clearance from Rodgers, Rood produced a lovely flick to spin away from a Glasgow defender, but her low shot was just wide of the post.

Jenny Smith was enjoying herself on the right wing and she almost got the goal her first half performance deserved ten minutes before the break. She held her line well to stay onside but could only fire her effort into the side net.

The second goal the girls deserved arrived with the last action of the first half and what a goal it was too. A free kick was lofted in from the left, and Georgia Timms met it powerfully at the front post to give Burgon no chance.

The points were made secure nine minutes into the second half and again, the goal came from the head of Timms. Another cross in from the left and this time it was more of a glancing header from the Hearts number 9, the result, undoubtedly the same.

To the visitors credit, their heads didn’t drop, and if it hadn’t been for some heroic defending, substitute, Eilidh Davies, would have added a fourth.

Timms had her chances to take home the match ball but had to settle for a brace as Hearts saw out the game comfortably to record their second league win of the season.
