Heart of Midlothian is delighted to confirm the appointment of Andy Thomson as the new Head Coach of Hearts Women.
Andy succeeds Eva Olid after a historic campaign that saw the women in maroon secure their first SWPL title; and joins on a three-year contract from Rangers Women where he served as Assistant Manager since February 2025.
Bringing a wealth of experience from a 19-year playing career, 55-year-old Andy first made his name at Queen of the South, recording a prolific scoring rate across five seasons at Palmerston Park.
Spells in England followed, including a stint with QPR, before he returned to Scotland, turning out for Partick Thistle, Falkirk, and Stenhousemuir before hanging up his boots in March 2008.
Cutting his coaching teeth first with the men’s football team at University of Strathclyde, he won the British Universities and College League Championship back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.
After time spent at the helm of Caledonian Braves in the Lowland League, Andy was recruited by Shelley Kerr as her number two at the University of Stirling’s men’s side in 2017, remaining part of her staff for her next managerial role with the Scotland Women’s National Team until 2020.
After time with hometown team Motherwell as Football Development Manager within their Community Trust, former England international Jo Potter recruited Andy to her backroom team at Rangers Women in February 2025.
Helping the Light Blues to the SWPL title in 2024/25, Andy will now lead the Jambos as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign.
