Spittal’s Hampden determination
07 March 2025Blair Spittal admits he’s desperate to secure Hearts’ return to Hampden this Friday as the Jambos prepare to welcome Dundee in the Scottish Cup Quarter-Finals.
The men in maroon reached the semi-final stages of both domestic competitions last season and the midfielder explains he’s desperate to grasp the chance to play at the national stadium again.
Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Spittal said:
“Obviously, the way last weekend went for us, it was very disappointing. Disappointed in how we played the second half especially, but the good thing about football is you've got a chance to rectify it, and that's what we've got tomorrow night, so we've got to go out there and do something about it.
“As a footballer, you don't get many opportunities like this. For myself, coming to the club, the club got to Hampden twice last year, so we want to build on that. But at the same time, you don't get opportunities like this every year, so it's massive for us to make sure we go and take the game to Dundee and show a reaction.
“Dundee are a good side. We've played against them a number of times this year. We've got a couple of good results against them, but at the same time, they beat us this year, so it’s going to be a tough game.
“They're going on a bit of a tough run at the moment themselves. Playing against them earlier in the season, the last game I played against them was a strange game. They got us on a good day where we managed to take all our chances, but the games against them so far this season have been really tight. We know what to expect.
“They're a good side. We need to be ready for the best version of Dundee, but at the same time, we need to make sure we bring the best version of ourselves.”
