Shanks wins SFWA prize
17 May 2024Lawrence Shankland has picked up a historic fifth accolade of the season after winning the Scottish Football Writers Association Player of the Year award.
The Jambos' skipper continues to shine this season with 30 goals in all competitions, with a sublime strike against St. Mirren taking him to the 30 tally - the first Hearts player to achieve such a feat since John Robertson in 1988.
Our number nine saw off competition from Jack Butland, Matt O’Riley and Bojan Miovski to top the poll of the country's sports writers.
The 28-year-old will be honoured at the annual dinner in Glasgow on Sunday following Saturday's season finale against Rangers.
He joins Hearts teammate Craig Gordon as a winner, with the goalkeeper previously scooping the prize for 2022.
This mark's Lawrence's fifth award of the season having also scooped the Fans' and Players' Player of the Year, the PFA Player of the Year, and cinch Premiership Player of the Year.
