Shankland scores 8000th league goal

The club hit another milestone in our proud history with our 8,000th League goal, when Lawrence Shankland scored the second goal in the 2-0 win against St Johnstone at Perth on Saturday.

 

Bill Smith runs through the previous goals in blocks of one thousand from the first ever goal in 1890 up to the present time.

 

 First Goal: ISAAC BEGBIE Wednesday August 9th 1890)

 

 

Isaac scored Hearts first ever League goal in a 5-2 defeat against Rangers at Ibrox.

 

 

1000TH BOBBY WALKER Saturday 19TH November 1910

 

Bobby scored Hearts opening goal in a 2-2 draw against Airdrieonians at Tynecastle.

 

 

2000th DAVID EDGAR Saturday 5TH February 1927

 

 

David scored a consolation goal in a 1-3 defeat from Motherwell at Tynecastle.  

 

3000th TOMMY BROWN Saturday 26th November 1938

 

 

Tommy’s winning goal came in a 2-1 win against Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park.

                      

4000TH JIMMY WARDHAUGH Saturday 7th March 1953

 

 

Jimmy Wardhaugh’s second goal in a 3-1 win over Aberdeen at Tynecastle brought up number 4000. Fittingly it was the Club’s overall top goalscorer who notched this one.

                     

 

5000th DANNY FERGUSON Wednesday 10th March 1965

 

 

Danny Ferguson scored Hearts second goal in a 3-2 win over Greenock Morton at Cappielow. Danny was a versatile player who played in many positions during his Tynecastle career, full back, midfield and even at centre forward.

 

       

6000TH JIMMY BONE Saturday 15th December 1984

 

 

Hearts suffered a heavy 5-2 defeat against Dundee United at Tannadice with Jimmy Bone’s goal in eighty nine minutes the 6000th.

                             

7000th ANDY KIRK Saturday 20th December 2003.

 

Andy Kirk gave Hearts the lead against Rangers at Ibrox but the hosts fought back to grab a 2-1 victory.

                       

8000th LAWRENCE SHANKLAND Saturday 5th August 2023

 

The club’s Season 2022-2023 top scorer scored Hearts 8000th League goal with the second goal against St Johnstone in the 2- 0 win at McDiarmid Park.
