Shankland previews Ross County (A)

02 May 2025

Lawrence Shankland admits he’s enjoying working with Liam Fox again, with the interim head coach having previously led the Jambos earlier in the season.

The men in maroon travel to Dingwall this weekend with both sides eager to pick up three points and bounce back from disappointing defeats last time out.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Shankland said:

“It's always difficult when there's been a change of manager. There are always changes to the dynamic of training. So it's just been about getting used to working with Foxy again.

“Fortunately, we've worked with him before so there's not too much adapting to do. But just been trying to lift the spirits again in training and trying to get the boys enjoying it again.

“Obviously we're in the situation we're in as a team, which at the start of the season is not where we would have wanted to be but it's where we are, and we need to deal with that.

“We've got a really, really important game at the weekend that we need to go and try and win and if we can win that then we can relax a wee bit and go and enjoy the last few games. But it is a hugely important one for us.

“You just take it one game at a time but if we can go and win this one at the weekend it does give us that bit of breathing space to hopefully go and relax and as I said enjoy the last few games.”

Former B Team head coach Fox stepped into a role on the first team coaching staff earlier in the season and Shankland admits that the prior knowledge for both players and Fox himself is a bonus.

“He's got a knowledge of the personnel that we've got. Foxy has his own way of playing as well in his own system so there's a wee bit of adapting there to do. We were pretty successful when we took over for a couple of games.

“We obviously had a really good result in Baku. We did have a really good performance in Aberdeen albeit we didn't get the result.

“We know what he wants, and I think him, myself and everybody just want to get up there and get the result this weekend. It is important to try and get away from this relegation play-off spot that would take the gap to eight points with just three games left to go.”
