Sean Burt delighted with Hearts Women's ‘great performance’
18 October 2022The Jambos were looking to get back to winning ways after defeats to Glasgow City and Spartans and despite an even opening 45 minutes, they managed to go in at the break with a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Trialist and a Vyan Sampson header.
Ciara Grant added a spectacular third in a second half which Hearts dominated to put the icing on the cake.
“All round I thought it was a great performance", said Burt.
“The first 20 minutes we settled into the game and then started to carve out clear-cut opportunities and thankfully the girls took three of them today. We are very happy with the manner of the win and the performance in general.
“I wouldn’t say it was scrappy, but it was a very evenly contested opening. I think the best opportunities were coming from corners. Set pieces is something we’ve focused on in the last few weeks and thankfully it’s paid off.”
The victory enhances Hearts’ grip on 4th spot in the SWPL and Burt explained that these are the games the girls need to win if they want to stay there.
“We highlighted this game as a key game for us. We wanted to take three points and we wanted to do it with a good performance. We highlighted it at the start of the week that we wanted our preparation and training to be good. That falls down to us as coaches, but the players really stepped up and gave us a good intensity all week and they got their rewards.
“It’s a long season. We will take it game by game, but we know if you can put a good run of results together and take points off your direct opponents it certainly helps to catapult you up the table. For us, we will take it game by game and see what we can do.”
