Rachael joins Jambos

18 January 2024

Hearts Women is delighted to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Rachael Johnstone on a 18-month contract, with the option for a further year, subject to SFA approval.

The 19-year-old joins the club from Celtic, where she featured in the Champions League and lifted both the Sky Sports Cup and the Scottish Cup during her time in Glasgow.

Johnstone has also enjoyed success on the international stage, receiving call-ups for the under-17s, 19s and 23s, before being called into Scotland Women’s Pinatar Cup squad in 2022.

As part of this deal, Lisa Rodgers has left the club to join Celtic. We thank Lisa for her efforts and wish her all the very best in the next chapter of her career.

Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, manager Eva Olid said:

“I am very happy that Rachael has agreed to join us here at Hearts. She is a very talented young goalkeeper, who has a bright future ahead of her.

“We are continuing to strengthen as a squad and the key to that is having strength and depth in every position. Rachael’s arrival helps us provide competition for Charlotte Parker-Smith and I am very much looking forward to working alongside her.

Women’s head of recruitment, Sean Burt added:

“For a goalkeeper so young, Rachael has a lot of experience under her belt, both domestically and on the international stage.

“Rachael will have gained so much from being in and around the national side, as well as featuring in the Champions League with Celtic.

“Rachael has already shown a great desire to be a part of our project at the club and having spent so much time in Scotland, is very familiar with the positive strides the club is making in women’s football.”
