Positives all over the park
05 August 2023Hearts B manager Liam Fox was full of praise for his Hearts B side as they rolled up their sleeves to grind out a 2-1 victory over Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill.
After an uneventful 45 minutes, the Wee Jambos were ahead inside the opening minute of the second half.
Ross Connolly produced an excellent stop to deny both Callum Sandilands and Makenzie Kirk, but James Wilson was on hand to bundle in the rebound.
Kirk doubled the lead from the spot and although Rovers halved the deficit, six minutes from time, the Wee Jambos dug in to secure all three points.
“This is a really difficult place to come,” Fox told the Official Hearts Website.
“Come the end of the season, Albion Rovers will be up the top end of the table. They have some really good energy, some quality and a really good coach in Sandy Clark.
“So we knew today was going to be really difficult, doubly difficult after the effort the lads put in on Tuesday, so to come away from here with 3 points will do the boys' confidence the world of good.
“Kai Smutek and Kenzi Nair at centre back were we really good. They are two young centre backs and defending is an art. They matched their men physically and used a wee bit of knowledge to battle their corner. Liam McFarlane in goals made a couple of big saves as well when we needed him, so there are positives all over the park for us today.
“As is the nature of this group, there are always things to get better at, but that’s a really good three points for us today.”
