Olid: We’re in a better place now

10 April 2024

Hearts Women manager Eva Olid believes her side enter this Friday’s  Edinburgh derby in a better place, than when the sides last met in November.

The Jambos currently sit fourth in the SWPL standings, three points ahead of their Edinburgh rivals, but they’ve come out second best in the previous two meetings between the sides this season.

A lot of football has been played since then however and Olid believes Hearts are in a good place as they head into what is expected to be a pulsating derby match at a sold-out Oriam.

“Just yesterday, I was thinking the last time we played against them was in November, which feels like so long ago,” Olid told the Official Hearts Website.

“For us, it just feels like any other competitive week and that is what we want. We want that normality in the build-up. We have that extra motivation, of course, because it is a derby, and we want the three points.

“It has been a really good week after the break. The players are coming in refreshed, with lots of energy and a good attitude, so everything for us is very positive right now.

“In training now, I think the players are more confident. Before, I think you could see a lot of emotions, that is good, but it is about how you control them and right now, I believe we are better at controlling our emotions, which then allows us to play our best football.

“From our point of view, I think we are stronger, whereas I believe Hibs are more or less the same. They were a good team at the start of the season, and they are still a good team now.

“In terms of us, I believe we are better now, than we were in the previous two derbies, which I believe will give us more confidence going into the match.

“Playing at Oriam, is our home. It is where we feel comfortable. It will be a sold-out crowd and we’re looking forward to having as many of our fans there supporting us as possible.”

The match will be streamed live on Heart of Midlothian’s YouTube channel. KO: 7:30pm
