Olid: More of the same

19 September 2024

Eva Olid believes her message to the players is simple ahead of Sunday’s top of the table clash against Rangers.

The Jambos are in fine form, having scored 21 goals in their last four matches and Olid admits there’s no reason for Hearts to change their style of play for the visit of the Gers.

The last time the sides met at Oriam was an historic afternoon for the women in maroon as they picked up all three points against Jo Potter’s side for the first time in the club’s history and given their current form, Hearts will fancy their chances of troubling the league leaders once again.

“We have to just do what we’ve been doing,” Olid told the Official Hearts Website. In possession, we have to show confidence, feel like we can play as we would against any other opposition. We don’t have to change anything. We can play our game, create a lot of opportunities and enjoy possession. We just need to believe.

“We love these games. They’re always competitive games. We know that Rangers are so strong, they always are. They’re scoring a lot of goals and are playing nice football, so I think it’s going to be an exciting game.

“I think they’re the strongest team in the league. It’s true that in the league they maybe haven’t faced some of the top teams yet, but they played the two Champions League games. We will be their first real challenge in the league this season, so I think it will be a good test for us, but also for them.”

It has been well documented that it was a busy summer window for Olid and her recruitment staff with a total of 11 new arrivals.

Naturally, there’s a bedding in period for new players, while everyone adjusts to each other’s game, but as every session goes by, the manager insists the team is continuing to improve.

“Every training and every match, we improve and learn as a group. Always, you need that experience to keep learning. We had half a team that was new so that takes time and still we need to know more about each other and learn things, but I feel like everyone has such a good attitude. Everyone has such a nice personality and, on the pitch, they’re so good and they can all play how we want to play.”
