Olid: A game of two halves
17 September 2024Eva Olid says her Hearts side will have to take their second half performance from Sunday’s victory over Aberdeen into the weekend’s match against Rangers if they want to pick up all three points.
It was a game of two halves at Oriam on Sunday and after a goalless first half, the women in maroon took the game by the scruff of the neck and thanks to goals from Joely Andrews, Georgia Timms and Sade Adamolekun went on to win 3-0 to remain second in the SWPL table.
“I don’t know what happened in the first half. We were not ourselves,” Olid told Hearts TV after the final whistle.
“For me, it was something mental and of course, credit to Aberdeen. They started really well, pressing us in the middle and we didn’t find the free player and that is credit to them.
“We needed half-time to put things in place and of course, I’m so happy with the second half. Really good rotations, combination play, so nice football and three goals.
“What we said at half-time was to be calm. Calm with the ball and calm in general. We know that when we play with the ball and play ourselves, then everything is going well. We wanted to transmit that message, show the players what was happening and help them to read the picture better and it was a totally different match in the second half.
“Every game is important. If you win against Hibs and then lose or drop points here, what is the point. The league is so long, we want to be constant, not just win against Hibs or against Rangers, we want to win every week.
“Next week, we’ll have to go in with the second half from today, we’re so good on the ball and players need to believe that. Our mind goes to next week now. We want to get three points, that is our mentality. We know that they’re so strong but we’re going to fight every second.”
