New era begins as Emma Brownlie signs

31 May 2022

Defender Emma Brownlie will join Hearts on July 1 upon the expiration of her contract at the incumbent SWPL1 champions Rangers.

Emma has signed a one-year deal until the summer of 2023, with the option of a further year. She joins Hearts with a wealth of SWPL experience under her belt, having become a real fans' favourite over the course of her three years at Rangers.

The 28-year-old, who can operate in the centre or at full-back, started her professional career with Hibs before plying her trade at Celtic. A return to Hibs followed, where she became part of an all-conquering side that raked in six trophies across three years.

A move to England's top-flight was next in 2019 where Emma tested herself against the best in a stint at Everton Women. She called time on Merseyside to come back to Scotland with Rangers, becoming one of the Ibrox side's first player to sign pro terms.

Last season, Emma picked up the Premier League crown with the Light Blues and did it in style as Rangers Women went the whole league campaign with an unblemished record to lift the title as undefeated champions.

Now she’ll bring her talents to Tynecastle, becoming the first player to pen a paid deal with Hearts as the team moves into a new era of semi-professionalism.

The club extends a warm welcome to Emma and wishes her every success in a maroon jersey.
