Naismith: We'll Bounce Back

27 August 2023

Steven Naismith lamented Hearts' defeat at Dens Park this afternoon, but is confident the Jambos can learn from the experience going forward.

Our Technical Director made no excuses for Hearts' performance on the day in Tayside, but underlined the importance of learning from this experience going into the rest of the league campaign.

"It was poor. We managed to get into the break with a draw and we make some changes that do have an impact," he told Hearts TV. "We'd have been lucky to get a draw if we hadn't conceded a sloppy goal which ultimately cost us.

"Our performance wasn't at the standard that we need to be at. We need to be better, we were too safe in the first half and a bit passive. If we want to be challenging at the top half of the table, then we need to be brave.

"We then had a 20 minute spell where we put them under a bit of pressure and started to dominate. We then lose the goal which compounded a disappointing day.

"It needs to be about pushing forward from here on out. With any new coaching set up and players, there's going to be difficult moments. Looking at the bigger picture, you hope you can learn from these mistakes and we'll be better for it."
