Michael targets good start

The Jambos are into the final day of their Spanish training camp as preparations continue for the first game back against Kilmarnock at Tynecastle – and the Northern Irish defender feels the boys in maroon have reaped the benefits of being together as a group in the warmer climates of Malaga.

“It was a good last day,” he told the Official Hearts Website. “The boys worked hard. We’ll be travelling back tomorrow so it was good to get a decent session in today. It was a good chance for everybody to get away and be together for a period of time.

“It builds team bonding, you get a bit of game time, so it’s all worthwhile.

“We need to hit the ground running again when we do restart. We want to finish in the top three and get back into Europe again – that’s our aim and that’s always been our aim. First half of the season was a bit up and down with all the games.

“We’ve now had a break, feeling refreshed, and ready to go again for this next part of the season. As I said, we need to focus on hitting the ground running and starting well.”
