Match Report: St. Mirren 2-2 Heart of Midlothian
29 October 2025Heart of Midlothian came from behind twice to earn a point against St. Mirren in Paisley.
Lawrence Shankland and Claudio Braga completed a spirited turnaround after going behind to an overhead kick from Dan Nlundulu, and a close range finish from Miguel Freckleton.
It was a case of same old story when it came to team news in Paisley; Derek McInnes sticking with the same tried and tested formula that served the Jambos so well in their run of wins up to then.
The boys in maroon started quickly, getting their first chance in after five minutes via Claudio Braga. Good link up play culminated in Kyziridis poking the ball through to his attacking colleague - but Braga's low effort trickled into the gloves of Shamal George.
Two minutes later and St. Mirren carved out a chance of their own; Mikael Mandron knocking the ball down to Declan John with a delightful touch to send the Welshman scarpering into the box, where he let rip with a tight shot that Alex Schwolow beat away at his near post.
Hearts had a glorious chance to go ahead after 13 minutes after some excellent work on the counter attack. Shankland led the charge forward from the middle, working his way to the edge of the box and sliding in Beni Baningime.
The midfielder did fantastically well to beat his marker and curl towards goal with a fantastic strike, but saw his sumptious strike hit the woodwork before flashing back across goal and going behind - a hugely unlucky miss.
It was an open encounter, and Hearts kept turning over possession, but still found their way forward. Kyziridis hammered an inviting cross into the area, which was met by Braga with an acrobatic diving header that was held by George.
Stephen Kingsley was next to try his luck after 23 minutes; Oisin McEntee's was cleared as far as the defender on the edge of the box, who arrowed a right footed strike that was once again claimed by Shamal George.
Hearts were made to pay for their misfires in front of goal when St. Mirren took the lead after 28 minutes. George's free kick went through to Mandron in a packed goalmouth, who expertly hooked the ball beyond Schwolow with a fantastic overhead kick.
The Buddies had the wind in their sails and caused all sorts of problems; Conor McMenamin blasting a vicious strike towards goal from distance that went high and wide over the crossbar.
Hearts got themselves back into the game after 34 minutes. Kyziridis' cross was knocked down back into the danger area - with a waiting Lawrence Shankland capitalising on slack St. Mirren defending to slot home the equaliser from close range.
HT: St. Mirren 1-1 Heart of Midlothian
The Buddies went close soon after the restart; a St. Mirren ball forward picking out Mandron who advanced towards the box and let rip, but a superb last gasp tackle by Oisin McEntee diverted it away from danger.
Five minutes later and St. Mirren tested Hearts again. Declan John made good headway in behind and whipped the ball across to a waiting Killian Phillips at the back post, with Schwolow doing well to get a hand up and tip over the crossbar.
There was a bit of pinball from the resulting corner, but it culminated in St. Mirren reclaiming the lead with Miguel Freckleton moving quickly to slot the ball beyond the reach of Schwolow.
It was a hellish ten minute spell for Hearts, compounded with St. Mirren getting their third on the hour mark - the Buddies free-kick going all the way through to find Freckleton. His initial strike clipped the woodwork before spinning into play, with Freckleton making no mistake at the second time of asking.
Hearts were given a break though, with a subsequent VAR check ruling the goal out and giving the Jambos some breathing space in the hunt for an equaliser.
70 minutes gone and Hearts were still beating St. Mirren back; a short corner was whipped to Killian Phillips at the back post, who got up and steered a downwards header towards the bottom right corner - with Alex Schwolow throwing himself down to push it around the post. A fantastic save.
A minute later, and Hearts were back on level terms again.
St. Mirren turned the ball over in the middle of the park, with substitute Landry Kabore sliding in Kyziridis who tried his luck from distance. His effort clipped the crossbar before spilling back into play, with Claudio Braga leaping highest to nod home on the rebound.
This was the most enthralling of contests, both sides going at it hammer and tong with the score finely poised heading into the final ten minutes of play.
Hearts thought they had won it with a few minutes to go, a proper goalmouth scramble saw the Jambos ask the question multiple times, before Landry Kabore got his foot to the ball and drilled beyond Shamal George.
A subsequent VAR check chopped his strike off, but five minutes of stoppage time gave Hearts one last roll of the dice.
