Match Report: St. Mirren 1-0 Heart of Midlothian

03 February 2026

Hearts were defeated 1-0 by St. Mirren in Paisley on Tuesday night.

The Jambos spent the majority of the match with ten men following Craig Halkett's first-half dismissal for denying a goalscoring opportunity - and despite a titanic effort at both ends of the pitch, Miguel Freckleton netted at the death to consign Hearts to defeat.

Derek McInnes made two changes to the team; Beni Baningime replacing Tomas Magnusson on his return from suspension, whilst Michael Steinwender swapped in for Jordi Altena.

It was a fast and frantic start to proceedings in Paisley, with tackles flying in as both sides wrestled for control; Alex Schwolow making the first save of the night after 12 minutes as he clawed Mikael Mandron's drive clear after Declan John's deflected attempt fell favourably to the number nine.

After a bit of huff and puff from both teams, the tale took a twist on the half-hour mark after Craig Halkett was showing a straight red for denying Jacob Devaney's goalscoring opportunity - the skipper attempting to defend a St. Mirren counter following a mistake from Stuart Findlay.

The Buddies started to press their man advantage, Schwolow saving a Phillips free-kick before Alex Gogic's smash into the net was ruled out for offside - capping off a tough 45 minutes for Hearts, with VAR ruling out a St. Mirren penalty.

Landry Kabore and Claudio Braga both saw chances go astray in the second half, before Oisin McEntee made a heroic block at the other end of the park to deny a Declan John strike that seemed destined for the bottom corner.

After a period of little action, Miguel Freckleton notched right at the end from a corner to floor Hearts on a miserable night in Paisley.
