Match Report: Rangers 4-2 Heart of Midlothian

15 February 2026

Hearts saw their lead at the William Hill Premiership summit cut to two points after going down 4-2 to Rangers at Ibrox.

Marc Leonard fired the Jambos into a remarkable early lead in Glasgow, before Michael Steinwender's own-goal cancelled him out.

Claudio Braga netted a sublime header before Youssef Chermitti notched a trio of strikes in the first and second half to hand the hosts all three points.

Derek McInnes made two changes from the midweek victory over Hibernian. Eduardo Ageu came in for his first Hearts start, with Craig Halkett returning from suspension at the heart of the backline. Landry Kabore and Frankie Kent were named among the subs.

After a cagey start in the opening ten, the next ten would bring two goals as the Jambos raced into the lead before quickly losing it. Marc Leonard did well to catch Rangers sleeping in their half and slip Claudio Braga in - the Portuguese forward unselfishly returning the ball before Leonard lashed home at the first time of asking.

Just three minutes later, Rangers had their equaliser. Alex Schwolow produced a double save of the highest calibre to deny the hosts, but as Michael Steinwender went to close down Naderi, he cleared into his own net to restore parity.

As the half-hour marked approach, Rangers continued to threaten, but Skov Olsen earned himself a booking after diving in the box after a nothing challenge from Islam Chesnokov.

The game started to move end-to-end, and another goal arrived on the half-hour mark via Claudio Braga for his fourteenth strike of the season; leaping to meet Michael Steinwender's cross after an Ageu attempt was spilled back into play, and seeing his header loop over Jack Butland's head and into the back of the net.

Eight minutes later, and in what was fast becoming an enthralling game, Rangers clawed their way back to level terms once again; Youssef Chermitti cut in off the right and went for goal, luckily claiming the ball back after it returned to him following a Halkett block and tucking the ball past Schwolow at the near post.

With 57 minutes on the clock, Rangers notched their third of the evening. After patient play that dragged Harry Milne out of position, Olsen was able to swing a cross in from the unprotected left, with Youssef Chermiti at the leap to nod the ball over Schwolow and into the net.

After that, the Jambos had to weather the storm, with Rangers going close twice in quick succession as Naderi saw a header go astray from close range before Mikey Moore sliced his effort over the bar from just outside the area.

The game settled into a rhythm going into the closing stages, before Chermitti completed his hat-trick with one minute to go after rifling home Gassama's lay-off from the left to wrap up the contest.
