Match Report: Kilmarnock 1-0 Heart of Midlothian
14 March 2026Hearts were beaten 1-0 by Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday night to see their lead at the league summit cut to two points.
After an even start where both sides threatened, it was Kilmarnock who drew first blood after Michael Schjonning-Larsen turned in Findlay Curtis' cross from close range.
The Jambos never quite got themselves back in it and saw multiple chances to equalise go astray, with Celtic's victory over Motherwell earlier in the day seeing them move to within touching distance of the Jambos.
Derek McInnes stuck with the same team that secured three points against Aberdeen in Gorgie last time out; Claudio Braga, Landry Kabore, and Alexandros Kyziridis spearheading the maroon forward line in Ayrshire.
Backed by a 4,000+ strong away support, Hearts carved out the first chance after 50 seconds; Blair Spittal's delivery into the box was nodded towards goal by Claudio Braga - with Kelle Roos in the Kilmarnock goal coming out on top.
Killie weren't about to concede more early ground on their own turf and went a whisker wide of the opener as Findlay Curtis let rip from just inside the area towards goal, deflecting off Tomas Magnusson and cracking the post before Hearts composed themselves.
It was a start that crackled at both ends of the park, with Braga threatening once again at the finale of two Hearts corners, with the Portuguese marksman flicking just wide of the mark following a cute delivery from Kyziridis.
Hearts were bright and inventive in their play, but a high line left them exposed, and Killie took full advantage of this to claim the lead after 17 minutes: Michael Schjonning-Larsen pouncing on Greg Kiltie's cross to turn the ball in unmarked at the back post.
The Jambos were quick to mount a response, Spittal won back possession in the middle of the park before sliding in Braga with a delightful ball, with Roos producing another save to keep Hearts at bay.
A minute later, and the men in maroon were at it again, Tomas Magnusson driving forward from the middle of the park and arriving at the edge of the box - the man from Iceland screwing a low drive inches wide of the post.
After a bright start, the intensity began to taper off, with additional pain to follow as Tomas Magnusson was forced off the pitch following a collision with Kilmarnock midfielder Aaron Tshibola, with Oisin McEntee returning from the bench in his place.
With four minutes of added time as a result, Killie came back for more, the ever impressive Findlay Curtis dancing past two maroon shirts before hitting a dipping strike into Alex Schwolow's gloves.

Killie maintained their assault fresh out the gate, with Larsen going close after hooking Curtis' cross towards goal, with Alex Schwolow claiming to ward off the threat from the men in blue and white stripes.
Minutes later, and Hearts responded after some cute interplay in the middle of the park set Harry Milne free to wriggle away from his markers down the left side - he hammered an inviting ball across the face of goal, but there were no takers in a maroon shirt.
The Jambos went again from a set-play on the right side of the park, but Braga's flicked header could only trickle wide of the post from Blair Spittal's in-swinging delivery.
The dice was rolled as the game went on with multiple subs introduced from the bench for the Jambos, but heading into a bumper six minutes of injury time, time was running out for Hearts to find an answer.
But an answer wasn't to arrive, and Hearts were beaten with eight games to go in the William Hill Premiership season.
