Match Report: Hibernian Women 1-3 Hearts
16 November 2025Hearts Women secured the Edinburgh Derby bragging rights as they beat Hibernian 3-1 at Easter Road on Sunday and leapfrogged their rivals to go second in the Scottish Power Women’s Premier League.
Despite trailing 1-0 at the break from an Ellis Notley header, a brace from Carly Johns and a strike from Bayley Hutchison ensured the Capital Cup stayed in Gorgie.
Eva Olid made three changes from last Sunday’s Sky Sports Cup quarter-finals defeat against Hibernian at Oriam.
Bayley Hutchison replaced Sade Adamolekun, Monica Forsyth started ahead of Kayla Jardine and Joely Andrews came in for Jenna Slattery.
Hibs started the match on the front foot under the floodlights at Easter Road. Following a loose pass at the back for Hearts, Burchill pounced and looked to round Rachael Johnstone in goal for the Jambos, however Lizzie Waldie did well to clear it from danger.
Not long after, Caley Gibb drove down the right and whipped in a dangerous cross looking for Kathleen McGovern at the back post, but Rachael Johnstone was quick off her line to gather it.
Hearts failed to conjure up any clear cut chances in the first half and only registered a single shot on target. Danique Ypema floated in a decent ball from the free-kick and her defensive partner Lizzie Waldie met it with the header, but couldn’t generate enough power to trouble Noa Schumacher in goal for Hibs.
The hosts opened the scoring just before the break. The ball was lofted into the Hearts box by Siobhan Hunter and Hibs captain Ellis Notley directed her header on target which looped above Rachael Johnstone and into the back of the net for 1-0.
Half-time: Hibs 1-0 Hearts
The women in maroon got themselves level on 58 minutes. Bayley Hutchison sent in a fantastic low driven cross from the right to find Carly Johns, who poked it home on her left foot into the top right corner for 1-1.
The Jam Tarts went ahead in the derby not long after. In the 62nd minute Lizzie Waldie sent in a low cross from the right which found Bayley Hutchison at the front post who smashed it home past Schumacher for 2-1.
With 20 to go, Carly Johns made it a brace for herself. Georgia Timms’ strike just inside the box was blocked, and Johns was the quickest to react in the box. She brought it down and fired home into the bottom left corner with a brilliant finish for 3-1.
In truth, the two goal cushion made it comfortable for Hearts who took control in the second half.
The final whistle sounded as the Jambos recorded a big three points in the Edinburgh Derby.
