Hearts women

Match Report: Hearts 6-1 Hamilton

26 November 2023

Katie Lockwood bagged four goals as Hearts Women got back to winning ways with a 6-1 victory over Hamilton at Oriam.

Eva Olid made five changes for the visit of Accies as Jenna Penman, Georgia Hunter, Addie Handley, Kathleen McGovern and Eilidh Davies all came into the starting XI.

The Jambos were looking to bounce back after a disappointing derby defeat last time out and they were ahead inside 90 seconds.

Lizzie Waldie’s diagonal ball picked out Georgia Timms, who had done well to stay onside, before slamming the ball into the bottom corner past Emma Thomson.

It was 2-0 after just nine minutes. Waldie again floated a ball in behind for Timms and this time she turned provider, setting up Katie Lockwood to tap home from close-range.

At this point, Accies would’ve been fearing the worst, however they pulled one back through Mason Clark five minutes later. It was sloppy at the back from the Jambos, but a neat finish from Clark, lofting the ball over Charlotte Parker-Smith and into the back of the net.

After that hectic beginning, the game did hit a bit of a lull, however it was Hearts who continued to dominate possession.

The Jambos restored their two-goal cushion on the half hour mark. Ciara Grant’s corner was cleared as far as Lockwood, and she smashed in her second of the afternoon.

Just as it was looking like the scoring was done for the first 45, Lockwood bagged her hat-trick in stoppage time.

A clever free kick from Grant picked out the number ten's clever run and she lofted the ball over Thomson to cap off an impressive first 45.

Into the second half and perhaps unsurprisingly with the points in the bag, there was a noticeable drop in intensity as both sides made changes.

Hearts were still looking the likelier in front of goal, and they added a fifth on 68 minutes. Davies’ shot was spilled by Thomson and Lockwood was the first to react to bundle the ball in from a matter of yards.

Aimee Anderson came off the bench to add the icing on the cake in stoppage time after rounding Thomson, she slotted the ball home to cap off a successful afternoon for the women in maroon.
