Match Report: Heart of Midlothian 4-0 Dundee
01 November 2025Hearts opened up a nine point gap at the William Hill Premiership's summit, after hammering Dundee 4-0 at Tynecastle.
Lawrence Shankland got the Jambos going after an uneventful start to proceedings, before Landy Kabore scored his first goals for the club either side of the break with two close range finishes.
Substitute Tomas Magnusson also registered his maiden strike in maroon to complete the scoring: bundling the ball home from close range courtesy of an Alexandros Kyziridis corner.
Victory sees Hearts widen the gap once again, with Celtic holding a game in hand due to their involvement in the latter stages of the Premier Sports Cup.
There were finally changes to the starting XI following five successive unchanged teams. Derek McInnes opted for three switches; with Michael Steinwender, Landry Kabore, and Blair Spittal coming in.
Dropping out was Craig Halkett, Claudio Braga, and Stephen Kingsley, whilst there was a return to the match squad for Christian Borchgrevink after recovering from injury that sidelined him since the opening day win over Aberdeen back in August.
The Jambos got forward first; Harry Milne doing so well to shake his markers with a nice bit of skill before sending a low drill at goal, dragging well wide on this occasion as Dundee organised themselves.
For the next 20 minutes, little of note happened, with both sides battling for control of the game as the ball stayed firmly stuck in the middle of the park - albeit, Hearts were shading possession.
There was a bit of danger to deal with just before the half-hour mark when Cameron Congreve cut inside and went for goal, with his spectacular curling effort clipping the crossbar and going out.
Hearts' opener finally arrived after 31 minutes, bringing some much needed excitement to proceedings.
Harry Milne made good headway down the left side, and threaded fine ball across to a waiting Lawrence Shankland just before the box.
He took a few touches, lined up on goal, and drilled a low effort into the bottom corner that went beyond the reach of Jon McCracken in the Dundee net.
The wind was well and truly in Hearts' sails by then and, eight minutes later, the boys in maroon had their second of the afternoon.
A maroon corner saw Harry Milne whip an excellent delivery into the mixer. It was a packed goalmouth, but Oisin McEntee leaped above the chaos to head the ball down and into the path of Landry Kabore.
The Burkina Faso international wasted no time, and applied a simple finish to poke the ball beyond McCracken and secure his maiden goal in maroon and white after Wednesday night's strike in Paisley was ruled out.
HT: Heart of Midlothian 2-0 Dundee
Hearts started the half with attacking intent; Kabore getting on the end of Blair Spittal's through ball to go through on goal. Shaking the attentions of his marker, he got a shot off which was held by McCracken.
57 minutes gone, and the Jambos had another.
Good build up play forward by Hearts saw the ball cleaved across to Blair Spittal, who struck the woodwork with a sublime curling effort. It spilled back into play, but the Dundee defence were caught sleeping at the wheel.
Kabore nipped in ahead of them and applied another simple finish to make it 3-0 to the Jambos, and his second strike of the afternoon.
Dundee thought they had clawed one back after 62 minutes when Simon Murray latched onto a long ball before squeezing past Alex Schwolow at his near post, but subsequent VAR checks confirmed he was well offside in the build up.
A delightful bit of skill almost brought Hearts' fourth after 77 minutes, with Lawrence Shankland sending substitute Tomas Magnusson into the box with a cute one-touch pass, but the Icelandic midfielder was denied his own maiden goal as McCracken dived to divert his effort.
A minute later, Hearts went close again, Alexandros Kyziridis presiding over the free-kick 25-yards from goal - forcing McCracken into tipping over the bar with a stretching save.
From the resulting corner, Hearts secured their fourth of the afternoon, with Magnusson showing sharp instincts to throw himself into the mix and bundle the ball over the line from mere yards to put Hearts in complete control - and secure his first goal for the club.
There were no further goals to report, and Hearts signed off a good week's work with seven points from a possible nine.
