Match Report: Heart of Midlothian 2-2 Celtic

25 January 2026

Hearts and Celtic played out a 2-2 draw at Tynecastle Park on Sunday as the Jambos maintained their position at the league summit.

An early strike from Ben Nygren gave Celtic an early lead before Stuart Findlay netted early in the second half to set up a nervy ending.

The visitors lead again following a Yang strike on the counter, but Claudio Braga swept home five minutes from time to wrap up a good day's work for the Jambos.

Derek McInnes made five changes for the clash; Craig Gordon was reinstated between the posts - with a starting berth also handed to debut boy Marc Leonard following his loan switch from Birmingham City.

It was a far from ideal start for the men in maroon, with Celtic racing into the lead after seven minutes. A Leonard foul drew a Celtic free-kick right on the border of the maroon box; clearing the way for Ben Nygren to curl his effort right into the top corner beyond the reach of Gordon.

The Jambos were in no mood to drop their banners though, and Claudio Braga was able to force his way through the Celtic rearguard minutes later and go one-on-one with Schmeichel - attempting a side footed effort that lacked the power to beat the Dane.

Some dogged running from Alexandros Kyziridis put the spooks up Celtic just shy of 20 minutes, evading his markers before whipping a deep cross to an oncoming Harry Milne at the back post, but the Greek's cross had just too much power on it and went behind.

Hearts made gains from set-pieces and Leonard's ball forward into a packed goalmouth was headed across expertly by Craig Halkett, allowing Kabore to send a snapshot at goal that dragged wide in the end.

The Jambos were dogged in their assault, and good pressing saw a throw-in won that was worked to Leonard for another cross into the area, Harry Milne's header from close range held by Schmeichel once again.

Moments later, and Hearts missed their best chance to equalise when Auston Trusty misjudged a low ball on the backspin, allowing Hearts to smash through and go on goal, Schmeichel again with the upper hand after saving Kyziridis' low attempt.

Right from the off, Hearts had the bit between their teeth, and earned a deserved equaliser after 49 minutes.

Braga did well to win the corner, and from the resulting corner, Stuart Findlay nodded in at the near post beyond Schmeichel to blow the roof off Tynecastle Park as the maroon support went wild.

Hearts started to dominate possession now, and the men in maroon smelled blood in the pursuit of a second, with quick play freeing Kyziridis to cut inside and go for goal on the hour mark - with Schmeichel producing another stop.

Celtic were still lethal on the counter, and added another goal after 63 minutes. As Hearts turned over possession, Cvancara ran all the way to the byline and squared for Yang, with the man in hoops tapping in from close range.

With 75 minutes gone, a huge moment of drama occured. Substitute Sabah Kerjota threaded in Kabore towards goal with a sensational through-ball, but the Burkina Faso forward was brought down by Trusty.

A yellow card for Trusty prompted an outbreak of fury at Tynecastle, but a VAR check proved the Celtic man was denying a goalscoring opportunity, and his booking was upgraded to a red with the visitors down to ten.

With five minutes to go, the clock was ticking, but Oisin McEntee knocked Milne's free-kick into the path of Claudio Braga - who swept home on the volley to secure a well-deserved equaliser and point.
