Match report: DUWFC 0-2 HMWFC

Eva Olid made three changes to the side that drew with Hibs at Tynecastle on Sunday. Erin Rennie, Aimee Anderson, and Gwen Davies replaced Katie Rood, Cailin Michie, and Jenny Smith.

After a disappointing start to the match in Sunday’s Edinburgh derby, Hearts came flying out of the traps at Gussie Park and were almost ahead inside two minutes. Ciara Grant has scored some stunning goals in maroon so far this season and she almost added another to her collection, when driving forward and letting fly from 25-yards, her effort cannoned off the crossbar, before Georgia Timms was denied on the rebound by Fiona McNicoll.

Hearts continued to dominate proceedings and took a deserved lead from the penalty spot on 27 minutes. Georgia Hunter played a perfect diagonal for Timms, who brought the ball down on her chest and was then bundled to the ground. The referee pointed to the spot and Ciara Grant made no mistake, sending McNicoll the wrong way to open the scoring.

Dundee United almost levelled the scores five minutes later when a set piece was hacked off the Hearts goal-line and the Tangerines were punished as Hearts went right up the other end and doubled their lead.

Anderson made a good run through the middle of the pitch before sliding the ball through to Emma Brownlie and she cutely lifted the ball over McNicoll to provide Hearts with some breathing space.

The Jambos almost added a third before the break and again Anderson and Brownlie were involved, the latter crossed for Timms, and her glancing header went just wide.

Into the second half and Hearts remained in total control of the match, the only thing missing was a third goal.

The chances continued to come after the break and although Hearts couldn’t add a third goal, they kept it tight at the other end to record a comfortable victory on the road.
