Match Report: B Team miss out against Tranent

The Wee Jambos were looking to bounce back after late heartbreak against Rangers at the weekend and manager Steven Naismith named an unchanged starting 11 for the visit of Tranent.
 
It wasn’t the best of starts for the men in maroon who fell behind after just three minutes. A bouncing ball dropped perfectly for Martin Maughan, who slammed the ball home to give the visitors the early lead.
 
Hearts responded well however and got themselves back on level terms just nine minutes later. Good play from Bobby McLuckie allowed Leo Watson to deliver a low cross, which was well dummied by the onrushing Harry Gordon and waiting at the back post was Makenzie Kirk to slide the ball under the goalkeeper and restore parity.
 
The Wee Jambos were then given the perfect opportunity to get their noses in front after 21 minutes. A penalty was awarded for a foul that appeared right on the line and Kirk stepped up to grab his and Hearts’ second via the post.
 
In what was turning out to be an entertaining first half, Tranent hit back 13 minutes before the break. A teasing cross full of pace from the left gave Kris Renton the simple task of hitting the target and the big striker obliged, ensuring the scores were level at the break.
 
Into the second half and there wasn’t anywhere near as many openings as in the first half and after Hearts were forced into a reshuffle with Arron Darge going off injured, Tranent got themselves back in front 14 minutes from time. A deep free kick was nodded back across goal and was slammed home by Euan Bauld.
 
The Wee Jambos huffed and puffed for the remainder of the match but could not find the equaliser as Tranent held on to claim all three points.
