Match Report: B Team beaten by Rangers

10 January 2022

Manager Steven Naismith made four changes to the side that drew with Broomhill last Friday. Liam McFarlane, Finlay Pollock, Harry Gordon and McKenzie Kirk replaced Harry Stone, Murray Thomas, Callum Hambrook and Callum Sandilands.

The first clearcut opening of the match fell the way of the men in maroon. Pollock sent Bobby McLuckie through on goal, but the winger was denied by an excellent piece of goalkeeping by Lewis Budinauckas.

The visitors hadn’t created much but took the lead ten minutes before the interval. A smart pass through the middle sprung the Hearts offside trap and Robbie Ure kept his cool to slide the ball under McFarlane to open the scoring.

The Wee Jambos deservedly got themselves back on terms a minute before the interval courtesy of Aidan Denholm. McLuckie did well to win possession on the halfway line and kickstarted a Hearts break. Pollock slipped in Denholm who beat Budinauckas at the near post to ensure the scores were level at the break.

Rangers were awarded a penalty just five minutes into the second half after Arron Darge was adjudged to have fouled Arron Lyall in the box. Charlie Lindsay stepped up to restore the visitors lead.

That lead lasted just three minutes however as Darge made amends for the penalty by glancing home a corner from the left to once again, restore parity.

Just when it looked like things would end all square, Lovelace was sent through on McFarlane and made no mistake to win the match for Rangers in the final minute of the match.
