Beni Looking Forward

14 May 2025

Beni Baningime admits it’s been a difficult season for the Jambos and says he is already looking forward to coming back next season with a point to prove.

The Jambos host St Johnstone in their final home match of the season tonight, before travelling to Rugby Park on Sunday for the final day of the season.

There will be a new manager in the Hearts dugout next season and Baningime admits a strong finish and a break will do everyone a bit of good, before returning for a fresh start next season.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, the midfielder said:

“I'm just thinking about winning tomorrow, then beating Kilmarnock, and then enjoying my break. It's been a draining season; it's been a hard season for all of us.

“I think we all need a break, and to then come back and redeem ourselves next season, hopefully.

“I've had a lot of downs in my career, in terms of injuries, in terms of not playing in teams. So, the one thing that I've learned is, straight after a game, I think about the bad stuff that I've done, because I always want to improve.

“As long as you're playing, you need to prove something every day. Whatever it is, whatever your motivation is. One of the biggest things that I do is, after thinking about what I've done wrong, I think, oh, okay, maybe I've had a good game, and I think about the things that I can do better. After that, I'm done.

“I think a new start is what we all need. We need to strengthen on the parts that were weak in. And I think we've already got a firm foundation. And the most important thing is, we're all really good friends.

“So, I know we'll be talking over the summer a lot, it won't even be really about football. It'll just be about whatever. Whatever it is that we're going to talk about.

“And when we come back, straight back at it, and a new start with a new manager. And ultimately, we've also got a lot of pre-season games that are actually Cup games. So, it's kind of like straight away, it's not a pre-season game, you actually have to win.

“So yeah, I can't wait for that new start. I think we need to remember, these are the same boys that the last three years to easily third, and fourth when we probably should have finished third.

“So, it's the same group. You don't become bad players overnight. Obviously, it's a strange one, but yeah, I do think we have to be better, but I do think the foundation of what we have of players and the quality, and most importantly, character is good enough for us to get a third.”
