Liam Fox previews Ross County visit

27 September 2024

Liam Fox says he’s honoured to be leading Hearts following his appointment as Interim Head Coach and spoke of his belief in the squad ahead of tomorrow’s William Hill Premiership meeting with Ross County.

The B Team boss, alongside Lee Wallace and Angus Beith, will temporarily lead the Jambos following the departure of Steven Naismith, Frankie McAvoy, and Gordon Forrest last Sunday, until such time as a new manager is appointed.

With the Staggies visiting Gorgie tomorrow, our first three points of the campaign is the sole target, with Fox underlining the need for the squad to get back on track as soon as possible.

“It’s been a busy week, and a disappointing way to start it with the news about the manager and staff losing their jobs,” he told the media ahead of the game.

“That’s football and the way it is. We have to bounce back and get back to work as we’ve got a really important fixture on Saturday. I thought we were good in the first half against St. Mirren, with the second being a more difficult game but every game in this league is difficult.

“It’s been a privilege and an honour to be asked to do this. It’s a huge and exciting week for the football club between the league and Europe, and we have a huge opportunity to get us back moving again. Don Cowie’s bringing his team down and they’re going to be extremely organised with real bits of quality too.”

After a week’s work with the team at Oriam, Fox highlighted the depth of ability and experience within the squad.

“There’s no doubting there’s talent in our group,” he explained

“Confidence may be low but hopefully it’s about them realising that they are good players and are a talented bunch. Hopefully tomorrow is the start of getting back on track.

“In life it’s about how you bounce back and how you react and I’m hoping that it will be a positive reaction tomorrow. There’ll be small tweaks, and hopefully we’ll have some luck and the rub of the green as well.”

Finally, Liam confirmed that right-back Gerald Taylor will be out for the foreseeable future after picking up a knee injury against St. Mirren in Paisley.

“There’s some disappointing news with Gerald as he’s got a real issue with his knee,” he said.

“He’ll be out for the foreseeable, but with that bit of news, there’ll be an opportunity for someone else to come in.”
