Knuckling Down
02 January 2026Derek McInnes says full focus is now on Saturday’s visit of Livingston and looking forward to January, which will bring about more opportunities to pick up three points.
It was a disappointing derby defeat for the men in maroon last weekend at Easter Road, but the head coach insists the mindset within the group is fine and is now focused on bouncing back in front of a packed Tynecastle.
Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, McInnes said:
“The mindset is fine. It's your job to knuckle down and get on with the job. You've got to accept, as much as some defeats are more difficult than others, sometimes you've got to accept that you've got to bounce back from sore ones.
“We've not had too many of those this season, and we're not going to try and dilute it either. But at the same time, we're now on Tuesday, we're a few days beyond it.
“So, we have to really focus on Livingston. We spoke to the players; we spoke about the need to just try and move on really quickly. We lost a fight on Saturday, and there's more fights to be won.”
“Being at home on Saturday, it's important that we try and maximise that. I think there are certain runs of games that look more ominous than others, and a bit more challenging than others.
“We've actually come through the December fixtures, away at Falkirk, away at Celtic, and Rangers and Hibs, if we'd come out with the points that we'd got, we'd probably have been quite pleased with that. So, even though there’s the disappointment of the Hibs game, but each game provides an opportunity to get three points.
“Regardless of who you're playing, you've got to play well. You've got to make sure you turn up and do your work. And hopefully, if we turn up on Saturday, we can get a win.”
