Jordi Altena to join Hearts

30 December 2025

Heart of Midlothian is delighted to confirm that Dutch defender Jordi Altena will join the club on January 1st.

The right-back will make the move to Tynecastle Park from RKC Waalwijk in the Netherlands for an undisclosed fee, subject to Scottish FA approval and international clearance, after agreeing a deal until the summer of 2029.

Highly sought after, the 22-year-old is renowned for his abilities at both ends of the pitch. Solid at the back, Jordi is an attacking, versatile full back who has a knack of providing assists.

A product of Vitesse’s youth system, he made his senior debut in the Dutch top flight in September 2023.

He left Vitesse to join fellow Dutch outfit De Treffers in season 2024/25, where he bagged three goals and eight assists in 27 games.

That form won him a move to the Eerste Divisie’s RKC at the start of the season and he picked up where he left off, lighting up the league with four goals and eight assists in 23 appearances to date.

Jordi will now begin the next chapter of his career in Gorgie on January 1st, and Head Coach Derek McInnes is pleased to be able to bolster his defence so soon into the transfer window.

Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, he said; “It’s good that we’re able to get our business started so early.

“We’ve got a strong squad here, with options all over the park, but I have spoken before about strengthening in some areas, and I feel that’s what we’ve done by bringing Jordi in.

“He’s got the attributes that we feel can make him a success here at Hearts and hopefully the way he plays will excite the fans.”
