Humphrys' wonderstrike wins Goal of the Month22 June 2023
The wonderstrike, which saw the forward shake off opposition challenges on the edge of his own box before bursting forward and lobbing United’s goalkeeper from all of 60-yards out, was unanimously voted the country’s top goal across all divisions.
The honour marks consecutive Jambo wins, with teammate Barrie McKay lifting January’s award for his sweet finish against St Mirren at Tynecastle Park.
On-loan Wigan Athletic forward Humphrys now has five goals in a maroon shirt and he happily admits that this one is his best to date.
“It’s definitely the best goal I’ve ever scored and I’m delighted to win this award,” he said. “Looking back at it, I remember the bench shouting at me to go to the corner. But I thought I’ve just sprinted forward and back, now I’m sprinting forward again and I don’t fancy going all the way to the corner flag.
“I had a look at the keeper, thought I would try my luck. And it was one of them where, as soon as you hit it, you know straight away that it’s going in.”
