Halkett: Spirits are high

08 May 2026

Craig Halkett admits the Jambos enjoyed Monday’s victory over Rangers in the dressing room at full-time, but by Tuesday morning, full focus was on Saturday’s trip to Fir Park.

Strikes from Stephen Kingsley and Lawrence Shankland were enough for Derek McInnes’ men to come from behind to pick up all three points and remain unbeaten at Tynecastle in the Premiership this season.

That result ensured the men in maroon remained three points clear at the summit of the Premiership and with just three games to go, the defender admits it’s something he would’ve struggled to believe at the beginning of the season.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Halkett said:

“I probably wouldn't have believed you, if I'm being honest. But we're here now and we’re in a great position. I think we're all just buzzing. The confidence is really high in the changing room. We had a great result on Monday and we've got another big game on Saturday and that's all we're looking at.

“There's probably Craig Gordon that's been in this position before and the rest of us, it's all pretty new. I've been pretty consistent throughout the season. I've said I think it's a good thing for us, that we don't have any past experiences, good or bad, of being in this position.

“Everything's new and we're all just going with it. We're all in good spirits. The confidence is high and we're just taking it one game at a time.”

On the victory over Rangers, Halkett continued:

“It was an amazing game, an amazing result for us. The build-up all through the week was huge.

“Everyone knew how important it was. So, to go and get over the line, it was amazing. The boys had a good celebration in the changing room after, but again, we came in the next day, and it was forgotten about and full focus was back on Saturday.”

It’s a trip to Motherwell this weekend, another side who are enjoying a very impressive campaign and while Hearts are one of the few teams to be unbeaten against the Steelmen this season, Halkett admits the three meetings this season could’ve gone either way.

“All three games have been really tight. To be honest, they probably could have gone either way. Thankfully, we've stayed unbeaten and we got the better of them in the last game before the split.

“They've had a great season. They've got a lot of great players and they're playing a really nice brand of football. So, we know it's going to be tough. But we'll train really hard this week and come up with a game plan to make sure we can go and have full confidence that we can pick up three points."
