Halkett signs new contract

25 December 2025

Heart of Midlothian is delighted to confirm that Craig Halkett has a signed a new contract.

The imposing defender, a key figure in Head Coach’s Derek McInnes’ backline, extends his stay in Gorgie until the summer of 2028.

Impressive at the back and clinical up top, Craig has been effective at both ends of the pitch this season. He’s helped keep nine clean sheets in 18 appearances this campaign, while finding the back of the net five times, including the Edinburgh derby winner back in October.

He’s one away from 160 overall appearances in maroon and that could come in Saturday’s derby at Easter Road, should he return from being forced to sit out the table-topping Jambos’ win over Rangers at Tynecastle last weekend.

Speaking to the Official Hearts Website about Craig’s new contract, Head Coach Derek McInnes said; “It’s great to get Craig secured on a longer-term deal. I’ve been working with him closely now over the last six months and he’s exactly the type of player that I knew he would be and can be.

“I’m delighted that we’re going to continue this work together, and I think it’s a good statement of intent from the club to secure someone who is so important to us going forward.”
