Gordon: I’m feeling strong
17 May 2024Craig Gordon believes he’s getting back to his best with every game as the domestic season reaches its conclusion.
Gordon has started the last two matches between the sticks, and he admits his body is in a good place as attention begins to turn towards the Euros.
Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Gordon said:
“It’s been good to get a little run. Get a few games in and I’m pleased to be back. My record is quite good, I've only had one defeat in the games I’ve played. So, it’s nice to come back into a team that is doing well.
“I’ve been back fit for a while now. It’s quite late on in the season, but I still feel like I’m getting better and improving with that game time.
“I feel in a really good place right now. It doesn’t feel to me like the season is ending. I feel really strong at the moment. My body is feeling really good. It feels like it’s just getting going before it ends, but if I do get picked [for Scotland], then I’ll be meeting up with the squad in a really good physical state, ready to train and we’ll see what happens.”
It’s been quite a journey for the Hearts stopper since he suffered a double leg break in December 2022, but it's all about looking forward now for Gordon, who already has his sights set on next season.
“It would be a great achievement for me to come back and be a part of that again, from where I’ve been in the last couple of years and I’m hopeful that that might come true.
“I still feel as if I’ve improved the whole way. From the comeback to a lot of the things I’m doing in training, I feel sharper and stronger all the time. I feel in a good place and hopefully, I can take that into next season as well and be ready for the start of the season.”
