Fox: We’re looking to finish strong

08 May 2025

Interim head coach Liam Fox says Hearts are looking to finish the season as strong as possible and build on their three points in Dingwall last weekend.

It was a much-needed three points in the highlands for the men in maroon last time out and Fox admits it’s now about building on that and finishing the season as strongly as possible.

Motherwell are the visitors to Gorgie this weekend and Fox admits he’s expecting a difficult challenge from Michael Wimmer’s side but urged his players to be on the front foot.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, he said:

“We've had another good week's training. I’m pleased with how the players have responded again this week. So, all focus is on Motherwell on Saturday at 3 o'clock.

“The most important thing [last weekend] was the three points. It was a big game; it felt like a big game. I was delighted with how the players responded to the work that we did on the training pitch.

“We scored some good goals. We scored some goals at important times. I was really, really pleased with how they responded after going down as well. I know I spoke about it after the game.

“They've been behind before in games and maybe not responded the way that we would have liked. So, for the players to step up and do that was a huge positive for us. But I think the most important thing was getting the result.

“This Saturday is another opportunity for us to put on a good performance. Motherwell have had some really positive results lately. So, as always, we'll give them the respect that they're due. But, again, we've had another good week's training and I'm happy with where the players are at.

“We're looking to take the front foot at home and hopefully go and take the three points. But we're playing against a very good team and a manager that's new to the league, which poses different challenges. You can't just turn up and expect to win a game of football at any level. So, we know that we're going to earn the right to do that.

"If we do that and we hopefully build on the confidence that we got from Ross County away, then it gives us a good chance.”

Finally on team news, Fox confirmed that Jamie McCart will miss the visit of the Steelmen but Cammy Devlin is back and available.

“Cammy Devlin's back in and available. And, again, he's trained well this week. Jamie McCart is still going to be missing. So, he was back out in the grass doing a wee bit this morning, which is positive for him. Zander Clark has joined back in in the last couple of days. But this weekend might just come a wee bit early for him.”
